This statement is prepared by our club treasurer, Mattias.

In our third year as a club, we are extremely proud of what we have achieved so far and the fantastic opportunities that we offer to a growing number of young people (and adults) in the local community.

Our club continues to be run entirely by unpaid volunteers (including the Club Committee and coaches) who dedicate their own personal time to ensure that nearly 200 children can play football in a safe and enjoyable environment.

However, running a grassroots football club comes with a cost and we therefore wanted to explain where your contributions (annual membership fee and monthly subscriptions) to the club go.

What are the costs of running our grassroots football club?

Pitches: We are proud to have secured and developed a hub for our club at Brickbridge Playing Fields. As the club has grown, we have also secured additional pitches at Wombourne High School (including the new 3G pitch), Blakeley Primary School and Himley Cricket Club. Each use of the pitches comes at a cost and in some cases the club have to meet the ground maintenance costs (including grass cutting, treatments and pitch marking).

Qualified coaches: All our coaches are DBS checked and have as a minimum completed the FA safeguarding and first aid courses (£70 per person) and the new entry-level football course for volunteers (BT Playmaker). We also request that at least one coach of each team has completed the new Introduction to Coaching Football course (£160 per person).

Playing kit: All full playing members of the club receive a home and away playing kit. A set of home and away shirts, shorts and socks costs around £65, once embroidered and printed. We also provide two goalkeeper kits that may not be assigned to an individual player. There are also costs of replacements whenever necessary.

Team and match equipment: Each team is provided with a set of training balls, match balls, ball bag, bibs, cones and a first aid kit (which is regularly restocked/replaced). For each team, this represents a cost of around £185. Our teams also have access to ready-built training goals, as well as brand new match goals. Each new pair of goals cost around £300-400. Corner flags and respect barriers are also needed on match days and come at a cost of around £90 per set.

Referee fees: In the Stourbridge & District Youth Football League (SDYFL) league, qualified referees are used and this costs each team £8-12 per game (U7-U11s).

Annual affiliation and insurance costs: For each team we have to pay for FA and league affiliation and more importantly personal accident and public liability insurance. This usually adds up to about £100 per team annually.

End of season presentation evening: Each year the club subsidises an end of year presentation evening including trophies, venue hire, DJ and other associated costs. Moving forward we will be running at least 2 seperate events per year for all teams.

So where does the surplus go?
The annual membership fee and the monthly subscriptions on their own would not have been sufficient to cover all the costs of setting up and growing the club over the past two years.

We are therefore incredibly grateful for the generous support and contributions of all our sponsors (which
include parents and coaches as well as local, national and international businesses). Securing all the necessary sponsorships for the club is a testament to the tireless work and dedication of all the volunteers associated with the club. It also highlights the belief that our sponsors have in our club.

Any surplus income is used to pay for unforeseen costs (coach cover, additional kit, ad-hoc ground/building maintenance etc) and to re-invest in the club for future use. None of this money is used to pay any staffing costs to any member of the committee or coaching team, nor is any youth funding used for adult (1st team) costs.

If you are interested in our finances in detail, we hold an AGM every year where all are invited to discuss the finances, decisions and future of the club. We have lots of exciting ideas, and we would always welcome more – your feedback as a parent is important to us, be sure to get in touch!

And finally – thank you, for choosing Wombourne Allstars FC as your club!
